Being that I have at one point played just about every online game the world has to offer ( Aside from a few Korean grinders and useless pieces of garbage such as Dark Age of Camelot ), I have come across at least once, just about every social stigma this piece of culture has to offer. One of the more annoying, as well as utterly pathetic is the in-game relationships, but furthermore, the in-game marriages.
There is apparently no longer a need to actually go out into the world and meet someone to spend your days with, for $49.99 and a monthly subscription you can find love in all the right… well.. imaginary places. Worried about getting tired of your significant other? Worry no more! Just make another character and your constant thoughts of infidelity are cured! In-game dating, relationships, marriages, and the good old extension of masturbation, cyber sex, yes our online worlds are the love connection for 14-50 year old lonely men playing female characters everywhere.
Coming from the background that I happen to come from… that was a redundant as all hell statement I know. I have learned one great thing about the online gaming culture. In both of the games I have been a developer for, there was a fair amount of female characters in the small community. But amusingly enough, only 4-5 actual women played the game… funny how that works.
